Welcome to Room 1!
I look forward to working with all of you this year. We will cover many areas during first grade. I hope you can support your child in daily
reading immersion. Hopefully
that will include at least 15 minutes daily of your child reading (or working
on phonics, or making books, or internalizing the “first grade spelling”). At another time I would like YOU to read
to your child so that he or she can listen to a fluent reader and also be
exposed to good fiction or interesting factual information. Sometimes, I will send home math games to support our manipulative
math curriculum or ask you for other support with a project. If at any time your have comments, information
or questions, please call me at school. I am usually at school by 7:20 and that morning time is a good
time for us to talk or meet. From
2:30 to 4:00, I am also often available but there are many meetings scheduled
during that period. If I am unavailable,
just leave me a message and I will try to respond as soon as possible.
My school extension is 676-6470 ex. 5501.
I will also support your child’s learning through a number of
field trips this year. I will ALWAYS inform you before each trip.
Sincerely,
Gayle O’Malley
