PE: We will be having PE on Monday and Thursday
afternoons at 1:20. Please make
sure that your child wears good shoes for running and playing on those days.
Library Days: We will go to the library on Tuesday at 12:15. Your child may check out two books
every week. Please help your child
to remember to bring their books back on Monday or Tuesday Morning in order to
make sure they may check out new books for the week.
Sharing: We share important news each morning. Students may bring items to share
that relate to our units of study or have other educational value to their
classmates. I ask that students not
bring toys to share. In the spring,
each child will have the opportunity to share a personal timeline. On that day, they may also bring their
favorite toy, items from a hobby or talent, and bring their favorite story book
to share with the class. That is
their day to be the Star Student!
Units of Study:
Literacy: Students will work daily to
learn and use the writing process.
They will learn six traits that are found in quality writing as they
write about their own ideas and to prompts provided by the teacher.
We share quality literature daily in story book and chapter book read
alouds.
Students will continue to build strategies for reading a variety of
different genres. A strong focus
on fluency and comprehension is essential for second graders. Students will read purposefully and
with great pleasure!
Math: Number sense is a year long unit of study. Building number concepts is done
through daily math stations, classroom lessons, and games. Number sense is a daily focus . Additionally, we will study geometry,
measurement and time, probability, and patterns.
Social
Studies:
“The World Beyond Myself” (Family, neighborhood, city)
Science: Life Cycle of Insects,
